Good news for truckers: according to new figures released by the Department of Labor, the trucking industry has added truck driver jobs for the third straight month.

Combined with strong gains in April, payroll employment in trucking is up 8,800 jobs since March, according to preliminary BLS numbers.

The figures were released on June and point to a great recovery. Payroll employment was up 1,000 over May, revised.

The industry is still recovering from being hard-hit in the last half of 2009. The number of trucking jobs was down 24,000, or 1.9 percent, in June compared to June 2009.

FedEx Hiring for Truck Driver Jobs

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

At their new Troutdale facility in Oregon, FedEx has announced they will be hiring for truck driver jobs and handlers to meet demand.

The facility is set to open next month, and it’s been two years in the making.

About 243 part-time handlers will be hired to stand and deliver packages. These jobs are very physical and demand a lot from a worker. Company reps say they’re especially looking for people who are prompt and demonstrate a superlative work ethic.

In addition to the handlers, FedEx is hiring 200 contract truck drivers and 600 additional employees.

Wages run from about $9 to $10 an hour. After 1,000 hours workers are eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits.

The facility opens August 6. It took about $100 million dollars and two years to build the massive 515,000 square foot facility. It sits on 77 acres and will house the hundreds of employees expected to be hired.

FedEx plans to hold a job fair in Troutdale in the coming weeks. To find out more about jobs at FedEx you can call their jobline at 503-484-1229.
